The Japanese Swordsmanship Society is dedicated to preserving and promoting the traditional martial arts of Japan.

JSS teaches Iaido, Naginata, Jodo and Kyudo classes in New York City and New Jersey.

Iaido

Iaido is the art of drawing the sword.

Iaido classes are held:

  • Fridays
    7:30–9:30 pm at CERC
  • Saturdays
    3–5 pm at Hudson School

Naginata

The Naginata is a halberd-like weapon with a blade mounted on a long handle.

Naginata classes are held:

  • Fridays
    7:30–9:30 pm at CERC
  • Saturdays
    1–3 pm at Hudson School

Jodo

The Jo is a short wooden staff, used to defend against the sword.

Jodo classes are held:

Kyudo

Kyudo is the Japanese art of archery.

Kyudo classes are held:

  • Fridays
    7:30–9:30 pm at CERC
  • Sundays
    9:30 am–12:30 pm at St. Bart’s Church gym, 325 Park Ave NYC
